Atlantic Canadians have a long history of being kind and helping each other! These incredible human qualities are most evident at this time of the year. The Kennebecasis Firefighters Union demonstrate these qualities year round and go into an even higher gear for Christmas. Their dedication and efforts ensure families get some much needed support.
For 37 years now, the Kennebecasis Firefighters Union has been sponsoring families in need. The KV Firefighters Union help local families by: acquiring food, clothing, toys, and Christmas presents for everyone that needs help.
We had the honour to interview Harry Ludford from the Kennebecasis Firefighters Union (IAFF Local 3591) and learn about the dedication and commitment of his team and the impact it has had on everyone involved. Here is what Harry had to say:
1. What is the most rewarding part of this job?
The most rewarding part of this job is the positive impact we have on the community. Our union believes in supporting the community who supports us, and being a positive influence to our local families.
2. How long has the Kennebecassis Fire Department been doing this?
The Kennebecasis Firefighters Union started the Christmas Family Program in 1984, and has run every year since. The program has adapted with the changing times and has been able to continue even through the current pandemic.
3. How can someone help out with this organization?
If someone wants to help with our Christmas Families Program we start collecting food and new toy donations in early November. We also fundraise at events throughout the year and love to have members of our community stop by and support us.

4. Where can people get more information on this?
You can find our Facebook Pages: “Kennebecasis Firefighters” and “Kennebecasis Firefighters Charitable Society”.
Many local organizations work along with the Kennebecasis Fire Union to ensure no family is missed! We at Higgins Insurance are pleased to give a $1820.00 cheque to the KV Firefighters Union! Our staff contributes funds every Friday (Casual Fridays) and the money raised is matched by Higgins Insurance.
Thank You to all the Firefighters for their dedication to such a worthy cause. We know these last few years during the pandemic has not been easy and we appreciate all of you for still working so hard! Our sincerest thanks to everyone.
