International Dance Day

Initiated in 1982 by the International Dance Committee of the UNESCO International Theatre Institute, International Dance Day falls on April 29 of every year, commemorating the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, a distinguished choreographer that brought about significant reforms in ballet production.
Here at Higgins Insurance, we have started a new education series on professionals who work in different fields. We will be highlighting them throughout this year and they will range from correctional officers, social workers,  doctors , 911 operators, police officers, nurses, education support staff,  arts, housekeepers, etc. If you would like to be featured, please let us know by email.

Our goal is to inspire our youth so they can learn more about different professions, as well as to showcase the amazing people that perform these jobs in the Maritimes.

Our most recent interview was with Justin Saulnier from Dynamic Academy Of The Arts (Studio Owner/Teacher)

Why did you become a Dance Instructor?

I became a dance studio owner/instructor because I wanted to help students who have a passion for dance reach their fullest potential. I have been dancing since I was 8 years old and had a strong desire to share the experience of the dance world to others and what it has to offer! This brought me to opening my own business, Dynamic Academy Of The Arts, in 2013 located in Quispamsis, NB.

What has been your most rewarding aspect of your profession?

The most rewarding aspect of my profession; I teach dance to a wide variety of ages, anywhere from age 3 to 18.  Within my recreational classes that are provided, to see the young children enjoy the art of dancing and the spirit that they bring to class is very rewarding as a teacher. Watching my Competitive dance students hard work unfold on stage is also very rewarding! These children work tirelessly in the studio progressing and achieving new skills, once they hit the stage I really see their level of confidence, artistry and passion come through and nothing to me is more rewarding.

What do you say to people who want to become Dance Instructor?

For anyone looking to follow this career path; I chose to attend George Brown College (Commercial Dance Studies Program) in Ontario which provided me with the skills I needed to own my own studio.  As a dancer, your opportunities are endless!! You can choose to travel the world on Cruise Ships and perform in shows, back-up Dancers, TV Shows, Broadway and much more!  I would say stay inspired and keep pushing to heights you’ve only dreamt of. If you believe in yourself, people will believe in you!

Leave us with a fun fact about your occupation?

A fun fact about my occupation would be with the amount of time I spend with my students; I’m also a life coach, career guidance counsellor, chauffeur, chiropractor, ego booster, shoulder to cry on and surrogate parent !! 🙂

Thank you Jason for the interview.
